Yvonne Elizabeth Brodie, 84, of Merrimack, New Hampshire (NH), passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 22, 2021, after an extended battle with cancer.
She was born on May 19, 1937, in Kingston, Jamaica, to her parents - the late Lloyd Balfour and Belta Theresa (Brown) Walsh.
Yvonne lived in Queens, New York and was a member of First Baptist Church in Flushing, New York where she engaged in missionary work. Then, in 1989 moved to New Hampshire where she was active as a choir member, deaconess, and president of the Missionary Board at New Fellowship Baptist Church, Nashua, NH, serving under the leadership of the late Reverend Dr. Bertha Perkins.
Yvonne leaves a legacy of perseverance, faith, hope, and love (charity) in the inner-city communities in downtown Nashua. Through her struggle with cancer, she discovered that God was calling her to the mission field. She followed the calling and founded a food pantry under the name of Community Outreach Resource and Educational Center (C.O.R.E. Nashua). Her passion was evidenced by her vision, leadership, and hands-on care for others. She and her team of volunteers provided free meals, clothing, and prayers for those in need throughout the city and beyond.
Known as "Sunshine" by her Jamaican family, Yvonne leaves behind a beloved husband and best friend of 61 years, Joseph Brodie of Merrimack, NH; three daughters and two sons - Michelle Soucy of Manchester, NH; Selena Southward (Timothy) of Madison, Alabama; Joseph Brodie of Brockton, Massachusetts (MA); Zoe Brodie of Marlborough, MA; and Eddie Brodie (Cassandra) of Dorchester, MA.
