Young Williams Jr. passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on June 19, 2022 at the age of 91. Young was born September 5, 1930 to Young Sr. and Gladys Williams in Marietta, Ga. In 1932, at 1 year and 9 months, he contracted Infantile Paralysis known today as Polio. At this time in 1932, he was the only reported case in Cobb County. With a lot of doctor visits and therapy, he persevered. He graduated from Marietta High School in 1948. He served in the United States Navy. He also worked for Sherwin Williams Paint Store. Young was a Marietta native who lived here his entire life. He married the love of his life, Betty Welsh, who he spent 69 wonderful years with. In 1951 he went to work for Lockheed Martin and 34 years later, he retired as senior tool engineer. Young was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and spending time in his recreational vehicle with his family, who he adored. Young was proud to have camped in more than half of the state campgrounds in Georgia and more than a quarter of those in Florida. He was especially fond of the Florida Keys and spent a great deal of time there. After retirement, Young and Betty traveled "The World". In their travels, they became big collectors. He was so proud of all the things he collected, especially when he got a deal on it. He was a member of several clubs involving his collectables. Young loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was a great supporter of his children's activities in sports, music, dance, hunting, fishing, and travel. A great supporter of his grand and great grandchildren's sports, dance, clogging, and super cart racing. Papa, he will be greatly missed. Young was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and Noonday Baptist Church. He also attended Genesis Ministry Church. He is preceded in death by his parents Young Sr. and Gladys Williams. He is survived by his wife Betty Welsh; son, Young (Kathy) Williams III; daughter, Cindy (Jeffrey) Dickerson; grandchildren, Young (Meagan) Williams IV, Angela (Jeremy) Burgess, Colton Dickerson, Kayleigh Dickerson, Carter Garland, Heather Waldroup, Jenson Jarvis and Dylan (Grace) Jarvis; great grandchildren, Jayden Nijem, Emersyn Claire Burgess, Finley Grace Williams, Aidan Gasaway, Brayden Bridges, Kinsley Bridges, and Bryson Bridges; brother-in-law Bobby Welsh, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Marietta Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Georgia National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, June 27 at Marietta Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Genesis Ministry, Mercy Ships, or Agape Hospice.
