We grieve the loss of our beloved mother, Ying Lu, 83 years old, who passed away peacefully on February 14, 2022 in Everett, WA. Our family takes comfort knowing that she is with our dad Chu (Joe) and sister, Yee, again.
Ying Lu was born on February 25, 1938 in Cambodia. She was the fourth of six daughters to Chi and Lien Bat.
Ying was married to Chu Lu for over 32 years before his passing in 1996. They immigrated to the U.S. from Phnom Penh, Cambodia, with their 5 children in 1975, and settled in Stanwood, WA. She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and was always grateful for their sponsorship of the family after the arrival to Washington. Despite having no formal education, she learned through many life experiences. Amazingly, she spoke four languages.
Ying is survived by her daughters Ngo Muresan, Lin (Ward) Kellogg, Ping (Fred) Kilian, son Sam Lu; grandchildren Calina Muresan, Johnny Muresan, Lia Kellogg, Amy Kellogg, Philip Kilian, and Sophie Kilian.
Ying worked for Josephine Sunset Home for over 20 years then retired to devote her time to her family.
Our mom loved gardening and had a gift for cooking. Her love for her family and friends was reflected in her cooking. She would always open her door with something delicious frying or boiling on the stove in the back. Her ability to feed the body and soul was amazing, from delicious soups to her perfect egg rolls. Not only would her egg rolls be the first thing gone at any meal, she would always have backups hitting the stove with a sweet smile on her face.
She lived her life unselfishly devoted to the needs of her children and grandchildren. She was an incredible role model who taught us to work hard, appreciate the small things in life, and to give willingly. She was beautiful and compassionate and lived each day with a purpose. She will be greatly missed, and we will hold her forever in our hearts.
The Lu family would like to thank the caregivers at GEM Assisted Living in Everett, WA for their love and attention to Ying for the past 2 years. A celebration of life service will be held this summer.
