Wright Riley Benson, 90, of Albany, Georgia, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023, at Wynfield Park Health and Rehabilitation. A public viewing will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 12 PM to 6 PM at Elliott Funeral Home, 512 South Jefferson Street, Albany, Georgia. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 PM on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 400 Pine Avenue, Albany, Georgia, with interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery. Rev. Carl White, Jr. will officiate.
Mr. Benson was born on October 15, 1933, in Albany, Georgia, the son of the late Ella Louise Benson and Dennis Riley. He was a Navy veteran and was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: James Williams; and three sisters: Beatrice Moultrie, Louise Phillips, and Betty Laster. He is survived by two brothers: Charlie Benson of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Winfred L. Benson (Sara), of Albany, Georgia; four nephews: Larry Benson (Cynthia) of Chesapeake, Virginia; Thomas Laster, Jr., Larry Laster, and Curtis Laster, all of Albany, Georgia; (Winfred L. Benson, Jr., deceased); six nieces: Thedjuana Benson Nicholson (Jerry) of McDonald, Georgia; Connie Benson of Chesapeake, Virginia; Imelda Allen, Wanda Leroy, Patricia Beasley, and Betty Jean Carter, all of Albany, Georgia; and a host of great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins, and friends.
