WINIFRED IRENE (WINNIE) MOFFIT SEITER
Winifred Irene (Winnie) Moffit Seiter was born to Thompson Carson and Mary Edith Moffit on May 12, 1923, in Tipton, Iowa, the fifth of eight children. She died peacefully, at 101 years, on August 25, 2024, in Richardson, Texas.
Winnie graduated from Tipton High School and worked at John Deere in Davenport, Iowa where she met Robert (Bob) Seiter. Winnie and Bob married in 1946, lived in Rock Island, Illinois and had three children together. In 1960, the family moved to Richardson, Texas.
Winnie and Bob had a "traditional" marriage for that era - Bob worked, Winnie took care of the household and children. In 1962, Bob divorced Winnie, and she became a single woman with three children to support. She had to learn how to balance a checkbook, budget money, drive a car, and gain skills to enter the workforce. It was not an easy time for her. She overcame many struggles and challenges, but always provided for her children even when it meant doing without for herself. She worked at Collins Radio for several years and after that, worked for Sears until her 70s.
Winnie loved to garden, cook, sew, play Bridge, do puzzles, send greeting cards and write to family and friends. She was very involved with her church; she helped sew and create quilts for their annual bazaar. She was always willing to help whatever the task. She enjoyed celebrating her children's and grandchildren's birthdays with homemade cakes and hosted most holiday meals. She always had a dish made with Jell-O. She made the best cinnamon rolls and made lots of homemade cookies at Christmas. She loved the Dallas Cowboys.
Winnie was a stubborn, strong-willed woman but she was also thoughtful, unselfish and giving. She didn't try to be special; she just was. In her early 90s, macular degeneration stole her eyesight and robbed her of her independence and the things she loved to do. At 98, she moved into an assisted living facility where she enjoyed engaging with other people and daily activities.
Winnie is survived by her three children: her daughter, Nanette (Penny) Stephens and her husband Robert (Bob) Stephens of Garland, Texas; her daughter, Lynette (Lynny) Seiter and her husband Lewis Clark of Cary, North Carolina; her son, Wallace (Wally) Seiter and his wife Debbie Seiter of Richardson, Texas; three grandchildren: Meredith Martin and her husband Jason Haffner; Melissa Seiter Walsh and her husband David Walsh; Alan Seiter and his wife Elysia Seiter; seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her only remaining sibling, her brother Thompson (Tom) Moffit and his wife Gisela and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at Restland Cemetery.
