LITTLETON - Winfred Clarence Ayscue, Jr. (Butch) passed away on August 3, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of Rocky Mount, NC, he was born in Vance County on February 6, 1942 to the late Winfred Clarence Ayscue and Estelle Robertson Ayscue. In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronnie Ayscue and Larry Ayscue. He is survived by his wife, Karen Russell Ayscue, son, Winfred C. Ayscue III (Wynn) of Atlanta, GA, daughter, Kim Ayscue Daughtridge and husband Tommy of Aventon, two step-sons, Eric Collins and wife Anne of Richmond, VA and Dave Collins and wife Leanna of Tazewell, VA. He is also survived by his two granddaughters, Ashley Nicole Daughtridge (Robert) of Red Oak, NC and Kelsey Ann Daughtridge (Jonathan) of Aventon, two step-grandsons, Blake Collins and Jase Collins of Tazewell, VA, his brother, Donnie Ayscue and wife Sue of Red Oak, NC. and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Butch graduated from Rocky Mount High School in 1960 and then served in the US Air Force. After returning to Rocky Mount, Butch began his professional career with Planters National Bank. Butch was a banker for most of his career also working for Tarheel Farm Credit until his semi-retirement in 1992 when he began farming in Nash County. He farmed until 2004 planting and growing tobacco, soy beans, peanuts and cotton and Butch worked for the Department of Public Safety of North Carolina as well.
Butch was a member of the Corinth United Methodist Church in Littleton, NC. where he served as church treasurer. He was also a member of various hunting clubs including a Lifetime member of Community Hunting Club in Aurelian Springs, NC. Butch was an avid game hunter and loved to be outdoors with his dogs hunting birds, deer and turkeys.
Special thanks is given to Dr. Margaret A. Deutsch and her staff at Duke University Hospital for their care and compassion during his 9 year illness as well as his many caregivers.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00am on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Corinth United Methodist Church in Littleton, NC with Rev. Stan Lewis officiating. Also a graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 2:30 pm at Pine View Cemetery in Rocky Mount, NC. The family will receive friends and relatives immediately following the memorial service at the church and at the cemetery.
