Help us celebrate Wilma! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Wilma.
Wilma Glyn Cole Levine, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother was called to be with the Lord on February 25, 2021. She was 96 years young! Wilma was born April 15, 1924, in Oberlin, Louisiana, the youngest of six children. Wilma was only twelve when her mother passed, so she grew up quickly, assisting her father on the farm and becoming a frequent witness to weddings as her father served as Justice of the Peace in Allen Parish. She graduated from Oberlin High School in 1942 and was soon a Civil Service employee of the Army Air Corps at the Lake Charles Army Air Field. Wilma continued with employment in the military in Tokyo and Yokohama, Japan, during the Korean War for the US Army; and Heidelberg, Germany for the post-WW2 reconstruction.
Upon her return to the US, she met her husband, Jacob "Jake" Levine, in Lake Charles, LA. They were married on June 16, 1954. They soon moved to Venezuela in 1956 as Jake went to work as a Petroleum Engineer for Creole Petroleum, then one of the world's largest oil producers. They returned to the US in 1963 to Hobbs, New Mexico, and later to Corpus Christi, Texas. Wilma had many friends; she was beautiful and kind and was a longtime member of the Windsor Park Baptist Church in Corpus Christi, TX, and a proud LSU supporter. Wilma and Jake had two children, Robert Lloyd Levine and Stephen Douglas Levine, and three grandchildren, Jeffrey Mark Levine, Logan Anne Levine, and Cole Craig Levine.
Wilma is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Louisa Samantha Lyles Cole and her father, Simeon B. Cole of Oberlin, LA., and her husband of 58 years, Jacob Levine. She is further preceded in death by her sister, Myrtle Cole Prudhomme of Sulphur, Louisiana, her brothers Barney Cole and Percy Cole of Oberlin, Louisiana, Harold Cole of Columbus, Georgia, John Cole of Raleigh, Mississippi, and her granddaughter, Logan Anne Levine of Houston, Texas.
The Family would like to acknowledge and thank those who cared for Wilma. Special thanks to her wonderful neighbors and friends, Cooper and Dolores Addison of Corpus Christi, Texas, Wilma's daughter-in-law Stephanie Levine, and LaDonna Guillory, Tomball, Texas, Director of the Village Green Facility. A most special thanks are due to Wilma's dedicated companion and caregiver for seven years, Maureen Matthews of Spring, Texas, who so greatly enriched Wilma's last years.
Minister John Cole of DeRidder will preside at the graveside service at the Lyles Cemetery in Oberlin, Louisiana, on Friday, March 5, 2021, at 10:00 am.
