Willy Blom 85, long time resident of Camano Island, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 2nd, 2022 with his loving family by his side.
Willy was born on the island of Maroy, Norway on August 25, 1936 to Knut and Olga Blom.
During WWII the family was separated from their father who was unable to travel back to Norway. His father spent the war years preparing a home for his family in Ballard, WA. After the war, Willy and his family joined Knut and immigrated to the United States in 1948. Willy graduated from Ballard High School in 1956. He joined the Marines and obtained the rank of sergeant by 1958. He served as a reservist until 1961.
In 1962 he met his wife Solveig, at the Norway Center, and they were married in 1963. Willy and Solveig settled in Edmonds where he built their first house. In the following years, they had two children. He built a house on Camano Island and in 1971 moved his family there. Willy and Solveig remained there, raising their two children while actively supporting their pursuits in 4H, Boy Scouts and athletics.
Willy spent most of his career as a meat cutter at various locations in the Puget Sound area, taking time off to work as a carpenter and also fish in Alaska. He retired in 1998. Willy stayed busy in retirement building houses, traveling with his wife in their RV and enjoying fishing trips. He was quick to lend a hand, a real DIY guy, and enjoyed working on his tractor around the property and remodeling his house. He volunteered at the Josephine Sunset Home and would do handy-man jobs for his friends and family. Willy was actively involved in his church, Our Saviors Lutheran in Stanwood and the Sons of Norway. He is preceded in death by his father Knut, his mother Olga, and his sister Alma. He is survived by his wife Solveig of 59 years, his daughter Anne-Marie (Brian) Petersen, his son Kurt Blom, granddaughter Taylor Petersen and grandson Jacob (Paige) Petersen. He has two surviving older sisters, Oddlaugh and Judy and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
