Willis Roberson, 80, of Palm Coast, entered the sunset of life at 1:47 p.m., on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at AdventHealth Palm Coast. The son of Warren and Carrie (Everett) Roberson and Lucille (Tidwell) Roberson, he was born on Monday, March 9, 1942 in Oakland, LA. Willis was educated in the Garland AR County School System and was a 1960 graduate of Langston High School (Hot Springs, AR). He was baptized at an early age at Greater St. Paul Baptist Church, Hot Springs. In 1964, Willis enlisted in the U.S. Army, completed his 2-year Vietnam tour of duty at Fort Dix, NJ. He was awarded the Medical badge, Vietnam Service medal and the Good Conduct medal before earning an honorable discharge on May 24, 1966 and he fulfilled his Army Reserves commitment on May 25, 1970. In May 1970, Willis earned a Bachelor’s degree from Knoxville College, Knoxville, TN. On December 19, 1970, he married the former Carolyn McCrary in Salisbury, NC and the following year they relocated to St. Paul, MN to pursue their respective careers.
Willis was a faithful member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in St. Paul, MN for 42 years where he faithfully served on the Trustee Ministry, Usher Ministry and attended Sunday school. Willis was a Freight Transportation Coordinator employed by CHS, Inc. (a leading global Agribusiness Cooperative) in Inver Grove Heights, MN for 29 years. After living in Minnesota for over 47 years, in 2016, Willis and Carolyn decided to move to Palm Coast, FL to be closer to their children and warmer weather. On April 1, 2018, the Roberson’s became members of Mount Tabor First Baptist Church, Palatka, under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Karl N. Flagg, where he enjoyed the worship experience and actively participated in bible study.
Willis enjoyed reading, watching Western movies, listening to music and working in the yard brought Willis joy. He would spend hours reading newspapers. In his younger years, he was an avid tennis and basketball player. His memory will live in the hearts of family and friends who loved him dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest by his sisters, Claudine Providence, Carmen Jackson, Sally Loudermill, Christine Means; step-brother, Claude Robinson.
He leaves to cherish his memories: loving wife of 51 years, Carolyn McCrary Roberson; two children, Rukiya R. Roberson of Ormond Beach; Rashad Roberson of Palm Coast; two aunts Trudy Robinson of Marion, LA and Idella (John) Harris of Hot Springs, AR; sister-in- law, Carlotta Chambers of Charlotte, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren.
In lieu of flowers to honor Willis' life and legacy, the family requests memorial gifts be made online to ALS.org. Visitation of family and friends from 5-6 p.m., with a Celebration of Life (with U.S. Army military honors) at 6 p.m., Thursday, July 7, at Mt. Tabor First Baptist Church, 4909 St. Johns Ave., Palatka, Rev. Karl N. Flagg, Pastor, is the eulogist. Interment will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 12 in the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
