Willis Harvey "JR" was born on January 8, 1940 in Jefferson, Texas. He was the Son of the late Willis Sr. and Susie Harvey. On January 28th, 2021, "Jr" quietly slipped away to restful song.
The Harvey Family relocated to Oxnard, California in the 1940's. "Jr" attended Ramona Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Jr. High and Oxnard Union High School. Willis, united with the Saint Paul Baptist Church of Oxnard at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. Jesse Walker. He was actively involved until his health failed.
"Jr" enlisted into the United States Army in 1957 and received an Honorable Discharge. In 1965, he was the second half of the Doo Wop Duo, Phil & Harv, known for their popular ballad, "Darling." He also loved fishing and considered
quite The Expert Angler.
He leaves to cherish heartfelt memories, a loving and devoted wife, Marilyn (Reecie) of thirty years and his fond and resilient sister, Evelyn Olgesby of Oxnard, Ca. Nine daughters, Alysia of Fl, Mary and Alice of Ca, Crystal of Az, Lisa of Va, Michelle (Teddy) of Nv, Ethio and Ronesha of Ca. (Preceded in death, Catonya Lynn). Four sons, Darrel, Rashad, Tarwan and Tyrone all of Ca. Siblings preceded in death, two sisters, Della Kendrick and Cordra Harvey. Three brothers, Leonard (Rita) Roberson, John Barber and James (Jill) Barber. Twenty-nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grand, four great-great-grand; a host of relatives and friends.
Due to COVID-19, Visitation is limited capacity from 11:30am to 12:30pm on Friday, February 26, 2021 with a Celebration of Life Ceremony to begin at 12:30pm at the Garcia Mortuary Chapel, 629 South A Street in Oxnard. Interment to follow at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park, 2052 Howard Road in Camarillo. If attending, please observe current COVID-19 regulations - masks must be worn, and social distancing guidelines will be observed.
