Willie Charles Strickland, also known as "W.C." and "Dub", passed into eternal life on November 28th, 2021. Willie was a beloved and cherished husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather who deeply cared for his family and friends. Wille was born on September 28, 1938 in Pembroke, GA, son of Delmas and Sendia Strickland. Growing up in a farming family and community, Willie learned at a young age the meaning and value of a hard day's work. He carried this work ethic throughout his life. Willie was a graduate of Southeast Bulloch High School in 1956. After moving to Savannah at the age of 18, Willie worked 10 years at National Gypsum and served in the Air Force National Guard before pursuing an opportunity at G.Q.F Manufacturing where he would work for the next 50 years, retiring at the age of 81. Willie loved the work he did and loved and cared for the people around him. Willie also owned Strickland Gamebird Farm, which became one of the leading quail egg producers in the United States for over 50 years. In his spare time, Willie had a passion for bowling, which is how he met his wife of 57 years, Barbara Weston Strickland. They were married on May 17, 1964, had 2 children, Tracy and Derrick, and settled in Pooler, GA where they have been a resident for over 55 years. As members of Pooler First Baptist Church, they raised their family in a loving Christian home and led their children to a life changing relationship with Jesus Christ. Willie later gained a daughter-in-law, Rachel Strickland, who he loved and cared for as his own and a grandson Daegan Strickland, who he truly cherished. Willie remained an avid bowler throughout his life and loved his time with friends and family. He loved family trips and enjoyed the beauty of the Smoky Mountains. Later in life, there was nothing he loved more than to travel from city to city to watch his grandson Daegan play baseball. Willie spent his life passionately loving and caring for his family. He was preceded in death by his brother Tommy Strickland and his parents Delmas Strickland and Sendia Strickland. He is survived by his wife Barbara Weston Strickland, sons Tracy Strickland and Derrick Strickland, daughter-in-law Rachel Strickland, grandson Daegan Strickland, brother-in-law Gene (Bubba) Weston and sister-in-law Kim Weston. A special thank you to the caregivers of Coastal Care Partners for the love and compassion they provided Willie in his final days. A private family gathering will be held in his honor. The family is asking for donations to Hospice of Savannah in lieu of flowers. Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Homes - WEST CHATHAM CHAPEL (912) 748-2444
