Willie Daryl Mitchell, 93, of Rowlett, TX, died Friday, September 10, 2021. He was born January 17, 1928 to Eliga and Mary Mitchell in Italy, Texas. Willie married Lora Hellen Black on December 23, 1950 in Texarkana. Willie graduated from Forest High School in Dallas and Texas Tech. He served in the Navy. For 38 years, Willie worked at Continental Electronics rising to be the Assistant to the President and General Manager, retiring in '89. He worked on projects that advanced communications around the globe enhancing freedom and security. Willie was a sportsman, musician, artist, wood worker, car enthusiast, and community servant. He played ice hockey, golf, hunted, and fished. He played many stringed instruments, sang in the Chancel Choir for 65 years, was a member of the Agape Singers, was a charter member of Lakeside Rotary, and volunteered at Baylor Garland Hospital.
Willie was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother Ted Mitchell. He is survived by daughters, Tina Florence and husband Joe Florence and Lorri Ann Monk and husband Frosty Hardison; 7 grandsons, Matt Florence and wife Sarah, Josh Florence, Zach Florence and wife Amanda, Nick Florence and wife Rachel, Luke Florence and wife Lindsay, Robert Monk and wife Merissa, and Andrew Monk; 14 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and Ann Ticknor, his dear friend. Willie loved his family and friends well, and was loved by all.
Visitation is Friday, October 1, from 3 PM to 5 PM at Williams Funeral Home in Garland TX. The celebration of his life will be Saturday, October 2, at 10 AM at First United Methodist Church, Garland. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Family requests guests to wear a mask.
