Mr. Willie B. "Bill" Wingo, Jr., age 94, husband of Jeanelle Scott Wingo of 873 Peach Orchard Road., Union, went home to be with our Lord, Wednesday, April 6, 2022.
Mr. Wingo was born in Campobello, October 3, 1927, a son of the late Willie B. Wingo, Sr. and Etta Harmon Wingo Gwinn. He was a graduate of Union High School, where he was a lifetime member of the Union High School Booster Club, and he was also a graduate of Cecil's Business College. Mr. Wingo was the owner of Wingo's Tire Center.
A veteran of the Merchant Marines and the US Army, Mr. Wingo served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a lifetime Deacon, a Sunday School teacher, and a volunteer for the Bus Ministry for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Wingo, both cancer survivors, were supporters of the American Cancer Society of Union. They helped with the Survivors Walk and were sponsors of the Survivors Dinner. He loved baseball, fishing, horses, and any competitive sport. He was a man of Christian virtue who always treated people with kindness and integrity.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Willie B. "Bill" Wingo, III and wife Nancy of Greenville and Mickey C. Wingo and wife Susan of Spartanburg; a daughter, Beth W. McCarty and husband Mike of Elko; a sister, Ruth Anne Anthony of Buffalo; and a sister-in-law, Marianne P. Wingo of Virginia. He was known as "Papa Dude" to the following grandchildren: Brad Wingo (Kayla), Gaston Wingo, Scott Wingo, Brett McCarty (Dana), and Betsy Hair (Kin) and great-grandchildren: Bennett Wingo, Berkeley Wingo, Blake Wingo, Micah McCarty, Lila McCarty, Emily Grace Hair, and Lydia Hair. Mr. Wingo was predeceased by a brother, J.C. Wingo.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, April 10, 2022, at First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Robbie Stollger and Rev. Scott Cobb. Burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 2:30 until 4:00 Sunday at the church prior to the services.
Active pallbearers will be Brad Wingo, Gaston Wingo, Scott Wingo, Brett McCarty, Mike Anthony, Tommy Anthony, Wayne Anthony, and Jack Rector.
Members of the Wingo Coffee Crew and the Wingo Caregivers are asked to form the honorary escort.
