Willie Lyle Atwood, 71, of Seymour, Indiana passed away at Schneck Medical Center on July 19, 2024. He was born the seventh of fourteen children in Liberty, Kentucky on January 5, 1953, to the late Willie Lee and Ada M. McFarland Atwood.
Willie served in Viet Nam in the US Army. He was a lineman in the army and that work carried over into his professional life where he worked for Comcast as a Leakage Technician. He was a very devoted husband and father who loved family parties, Nascar and motorsports. He was very proud of his military service and was a member of the VFW.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sisters, Emma Plisko, Edward Atwood, Anna Bishop, Dewayne Atwood, Linda Morrison and George Atwood. He is also preceded in death by a niece, Ada Georgina Atwood and two nephews, Earl Lee Wesley and Samuel J. Smith as well as mother and father-in-law, Dorothy Mae and William "Eddie" Delph.
Surviving to cherish his memories are his wife, Melissa, daughter, Amanda, sisters, Wilma (Herbert) Taylor, Lana Peyton, Martha Malone, Theresa (Bob) Vondielingen, Nancy (Brad) Goben, Libby Atwood and Sue Smith.
Friends may gather with Willie's family on Thursday July 25, 2024 from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm, at Burkholder Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, 419 N. Chestnut St., Seymour, IN 47274. Pastor Philip Bloch will officiate. Concluding services and interment will follow at the City of Seymour Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in Willie's memory to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (www.t2t.org) to help veterans with housing.
