William Jackson Wilson, aged 82, died May 27, 2018. He was born June 14, 1935 in High Point, NC, grew up in Fayetteville, NC, and graduated from Campbell College and UNC-Chapel Hill in 1959. He taught high school English at Campbell College and Camp Lejeune High School. He always exclaimed that he really enjoyed teaching. He then joined Weyerhaeuser properties (later Westminster) and worked in commercial real estate until retirement in 1991. He continued with his own commercial management company as well as many land divisions for the Onslow County Clerk of Court. He served on the Jacksonville City Council one term, as head of the Onslow County Democratic Party, and on the Salvation Army Board for over 35 years. He enjoyed flying, was a great story teller, a kind and gentle person and a true gentleman. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Shelton Wilson, his children and step-children Nancy Brandon (Steve), Blair Hedgecock (Rick), Merritt Attkisson (William), Amy Wilson (David Spense), Wesley Wilson (Laurie) and Rebecca Harrison (Michael); his grandchildren: Alex Attkisson, Sophie Blankenship, Holly Attkisson, Lucy Harrison, Garrett, Mason and Jake Hedgecock; his sisters: Francis West (Tommy) and Liz Smith (John); and his brothers-in-law: Joe Shelton (Carol) and John Brack. He was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth Johnson Wilson, his sister Sara Wilson and his parents, William Wynn Wilson and Ruth Burns Wilson. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army, 461 Center Street, Jacksonville, NC 28540 or to a charity of your choice. There will be a celebration of his life on Sunday June 3, 2018 from 3-5 pm at the family home, 318 Woodland Drive, Jacksonville, NC.
