William Carl Wangerin "Bill" passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 30, 2023 with family by his side.
Bill was born on May 30, 1956 and grew up on the family farm in Leeds (Arlington), WI. He was united in marriage to Linda Vernig on March 26, 1987. After leaving the farm, Bill worked at Fox-Hasse in DeForest, WI as a supervisor until a fire caused the plant to close. He then worked at a potato chip factory in Arlington, at the rubber plant in DeForest, and finally as a mechanic at The Ball Corp in DeForest. Bill loved to hunt, fish, and woodworking. He also loved to make sausage, smoke food, and overall, just loved to cook. Bill also enjoyed camping and Bill and Linda purchased a trailer at the campground just outside of Montello where he also had a pontoon boat so they could have some quiet time during retirement. At one time he was a member of Arlington Prairie Drifters snowmobile club. He enjoyed shooting pool, playing horseshoes, and shooting darts. Bill liked going to Las Vegas to visit his parents and do a little gambling (his mom would always give him a little cash, but don't tell DAD). Bill married his beautiful wife Linda in Vegas. Bill always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was a caring, fun-loving man!
Bill had a long battle with COPD and was diagnosed with lung cancer two years ago. He fought hard with his wife Linda by his side every day. He also had other caregivers that he wanted to thank for their help and support and special thank you to Hillside Home Care & Hospice Staff for making his final days more comfortable.
Bill is survived by his wife Linda, his children, Elizabeth (and her mother-Marcella Woodward), Liz Nelson; William, Will (Erin) Wangerin; Dustin Wangerin, six grandchildren, Jasmine, RJ, Hunter, Emma, Lucas, and Baxter; and one great grandchild, Ramona; three older brothers, Fredrick (Shelley) Wangerin, Melvin (Diane) Wangerin, Donald (Estelita) Wangerin and one younger sister Rose (Smokey) Andler along with an "adopted" family member and close friend, Bob Henze. In-laws include Judy (Mike) Pitzo; Diane Tucker, and Ralph (Vicki) Vernig. Bill is further survived by several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Bill was proceeded in death by his parents, Harold and Helen (Lainberger) Wangerin, Linda's parents, Ralph and Charlotte (Annen) Vernig and a brother-in-law, Timothy Tucker.
A memorial gathering for Bill will take place on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Faith Lutheran Church, 120 Faith Drive, Columbus, WI from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 1:30 p.m.
