William Thomas Thompson, Jr., age 84, of Algoa, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2024, surrounded by his family. His legacy of integrity, generosity, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Throughout his childhood, Bill was an active Boy Scout and 4-H Member. When he was 15 years old, Bill traveled to Korea with other members of the Galveston County 4-H, to take livestock to their people and teach them about Animal Husbandry. Bill was a graduate of Santa Fe High School class of 1958 and attended Tarleton State University, Brazosport College, San Jacinto College and Alvin Community College.
Bill was a dedicated and respected employee of Dow Chemical, where he worked for over 35 years. His career was marked by innovation, hard work, and a commitment to excellence. Bill's contributions to the company were significant, and he was known not only for his technical expertise but also for his mentorship and willingness to help others succeed.
A true Texan at heart, Bill was deeply connected to his roots in Algoa. He was an active member of his community and a volunteer fire fighter for Santa Fe Fire & Rescue for 16 years. Bill was a 20-year long member and trustee of the Algoa Extension Education Association - Texas A&M AgriLife. He was also an active member of the Jaycees in Freeport, Texas for 10 years.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents William and Minnie Thompson, Sr.; son Gary Thompson; and sisters Dorothy MacQueen, Sarah McCormick, and Billie Jo Area.
Bill is survived by his wife of 33 years, Brenda Thompson; his children, Patricia Thompson, William Thompson, III, Doug Thompson (Stephanie) and Angella Lewis Hampton; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He also leaves behind his brother, David Thompson (Jenny), and an exuberant number of extended family members and friends.
A visitation will be held at Froberg Funeral Home at Oak Park in Alvin on Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM. Funeral services will be held directly after the visitation and interment will follow at Confederate Cemetery in Alvin. The family invites those who knew Bill to attend and share in remembering the life of a man who gave so much to his family, his work, and his community.
The pallbearers will be Don Area, Jerry Area, Charlie McCormick, Joel McCormick, John MacQueen, Scott MacQueen, David Thompson, Richard Patterson, and Charles Lambright.
