William J. Suckow

William "Bill" J. Suckow (93) died peacefully on October 28, 2021. He was born on December 16, 1927 in Plymouth, Wisconsin, the 15th child of William F. and Anna Suckow (Schulz).
Bill was a devoted husband, family man, and Christian. He was very active in a variety of leadership capacities in the local Lutheran church in cities where he lived, including Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Warwick, Rhode Island; Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Herndon, Virginia; and Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Naples, Florida. He also served on the Lutheran Stewardship Boards of the Virginia and the Florida-Bahamas Synods.
He attended the Lutheran Parochial School and Public High School in Plymouth, Wisconsin before entering the Army in 1945. After the service, he attended Valparaiso University, the University of Maryland, and the Air War College.
Bill worked in the federal government for 34 years, holding positions as an Intelligence Analyst in Army Intelligence; a staff officer in the Defense Intelligence Agency; and upon joining the Central Intelligence Agency, he chaired a subcommittee for eleven years with responsibilities for planning, developing, and tasking of National Airborne and overhead satellite reconnaissance systems. For this service he was awarded the National Intelligence Medal of Achievement, a high honor presented for "especially meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service to the United States" by personnel working in the Intelligence Community. After retirement from government, he worked for 11 years as a Senior Manager with Booz-Allen and Hamilton.
Bill was also active in civic affairs serving on numerous Homeowner Associations, and Merchants & Professionals Associations. He was a member of the American Legion in Naples, Florida, Post 135 and a Master Gardener.
His wife of 64 years Eva L. (Chester) Suckow preceded him in death in April 2012. In March 2014, Bill married Ms. Jean Burger, originally from Michigan, who passed away in June 2021. He is survived by his three daughters: Mrs. Diana Lynn Foor (John), Cape Coral, Florida; Mrs. Sheryl Ann Suko Levy (Larry), Manassas, Virginia; and Caryn JoAnn Suko Smith (Jeff), Fort Myers, Florida. Grandchildren include Jason Foor and Benjamin Foor (Kaew), Williamsport, Maryland; Danyle Foor, Cape Coral, Florida; and Samone Smith, Slater Smith, and Shane Smith, Fort Myers, Florida and Matthew Bragg (Amy), Cape Coral, Florida. Great-grandchildren are Meadow, Madelyn, Michael, Emma, Annabelle, Braxton, Byron, Jett and Jade. His parents, eight sisters and six brothers preceded Bill in death.
A remembrance service will be held in January 2022 at Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Naples, Florida. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation is welcomed to the "Endowment Fund" of Christus Victor Lutheran Church, 15600 Tamiami Trail N, Naples, FL 34110, which Bill helped to establish to sustain the long-range mission of the congregation.
