William J. Simmons , 86 Sep 13, 1935 - Jan 16, 2022 William (Bill) Simmons, 86, of Hagerstown, MD and formerly of Bellingham, WA and Clarksburg, MD passed away on Sunday, January 16, at Commonwealth Senior Living. He passed away peacefully days after a loving visit from his family living in Washington State and New Jersey. His wife, daughter and son often by his side. Born on September 13, 1935 in Spencer, West Virginia to the late William Leonard Simmons and Donna Louise Jarvis. He was preceded in death by his beloved little daughter, Donna Renee Simmons and his brother, Cdr. Charles Jackson Simmons. Bill graduated from Pittsburgh Institute of Art and made a successful career as a Graphic artist. He retired from Bechtel Power Corporation where he managed the Graphics Art Department. He married his first wife Margaret with whom he had 3 children: Donna Renee Simmons, Susan Jean Simmons and Eric Scott Simmons. He married Christa Simmons on April 11, 1992. Both had 2 children and the family blended happily through out their 29+ year marriage. In 1994 Bill and Christa both took early retirement and moved to Bellingham, WA. They returned to Hagerstown in November of 2018 due to Bill's illness. Bill is survived by his wife of 29 years, Christa Simmons; his daughter Susan DeWitt and husband Donny DeWitt of Frederick, Maryland; his son Eric Simmons of Lil Red on the open road; and his beloved sister Susan Alling of Spring Lake Heights, New Jersey; his nephews and niece from Washington State; his two daughters by marriage: Lisa Martinez and Henry Martinez of Las Vegas, Nevada; Brandee Carrigan and Mike Carrigan, Kristina Carrigan, and Christopher Carrigan of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; his first wife and Susan and Eric's Mother, Margret Mrazik of Boonsboro, Maryland; and his four legged boy's Dexter and Axel. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD, on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at 1:00 pm. Bill's ashes will be buried at a future date at his family plot in Spencer, West Virginia.
