William W. (Bill) Schroder died of natural causes on February 13, 2021 in Jacksonville, FL. He was born February 5, 1929 in Weehawken, NJ to Gustav and Wilhelmina Schroder, the youngest in the family of older sisters, Dorothy and Eleanor. His family moved to Teaneck, NJ in 1930. He graduated from Teaneck HS where he was a three-year varsity baseball player. He went on to earn a dual degree in Physical Education and English from Rutgers University in 1951, and a Master of Arts in guidance from Columbia University in 1956. He served in the Army from 1951-53.
He began a teaching and coaching career in 1953, and after working in Midland Park and Teaneck, achieved notable success as the Chairman of the Physical Education Department and head baseball coach at Sparta High School from 1959 to 1968. In 1959, he married Virginia Roos. They had three children: Stephen, Jennifer, and Susan. In 1968, the Schroder family moved to Lighthouse Point, Florida where he worked at Northeast High School as a guidance counselor and baseball coach until his retirement in 1993.
He leaves behind Virginia, his wife of forty years, children - Stephen Schroder and Jennifer (Lester) Huffingham of Jacksonville, Susan (Jay) Hare of Atlanta, GA, and grandchildren - Ted, Dan, and Meg Huffingham and Emma and Jamie Hare.
A memorial service will be held at the Episcopal Church of our Saviour in Mandarin, FL at a future date.
