Roger was born in Baltimore, MD on November 26, 1947. He was the son of Ethel Conner Hahn and Robert Wayne Payton. Roger and his sister Marsha were raised by his beloved grandmom Viola Conner in Brunswick, Md. He also spent some time living in the
Middletown and Boonsboro area. In 1966, Roger enlisted in the US Maine Corp. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He served as a Corporal in Company B, 9th Engineer Battalion,FMF, Awarded the Meritorious Mast and He served on the Med cruise and several Marine bases in the US.
He married the love of his life Talmadge "Tammy" Grams Payton on December 20, 1969. They were happily together for over 52 years. Together they raised their only daughter Michele and many other "adopted" friends of her's over the years who called them "Mom and Pops". Everyone was welcome in their home, camping trips and vacations. He and Michele had a special bond. He was so proud of her accomplishments and of the Mother she was to his one and only Granddaughter Madison. They were each others biggest protectors, she fought for him to his last breath. He loved his girls more than anything. Madison was his "doll baby"and loved to spend every minute with her. He had a hard time telling any of them "No".
Roger was employed for over 30 + years at Pulte Homes in the construction industry.
Roger was a avid hunter and enjoyed nothing more than hunting or fishing with his daughter, friends nephews, and great nephews. He mostly hunted for white tail deer. He spent many hours fishing on the mighty Potomac River. He loved going to all of his great nephew Hunter Jacob's baseball games and great Kalvin McBride's basketball games, and seeing pictures of his great nephew Kaleb McBrides fishing trips.
Roger was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1136 and a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, his loving GRAND - MOM Viola Conner, grandparents William Conner and the Payton's.; Tammy's parents Bobo and Nancy Grams; brothers Mike & Patrick McNieve, sisters Shirley McNieve and Sharon Painter, sister-in-law Liselotte Grams and Nancy D. Grams; and brother-in-law Reese C. Grams.
He is survived by his wife Tammy; daughter Michele Payton and his granddaughter "Boby Doll" Madison. His sister Marsha Potter husband Jerry; sisters-in-law Nancy McBride and husband Mick, Sherry McNieve, Debbie Everhart, brother-in-law Atlee Grams, Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews, great and great great neices and nephews and cousins.
The funeral services will be at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick, MD. The viewing September 16 from 6 - 8 PM. The funeral home will be open from 9 AM - 8 PM. The funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 11 AM. The internment will be at Park Heights Cemetery, Brunswick, Md. Pallbearers are Kirk McBride, Hunter Jacobs, Randy Potter, Michael Jacobs, Ethan Potter, and Chris Dove.
Following the service everyone is invited to the celebration of Life at the Eagles Club, 401 Central Ave, Brunswick, MD.

Michele, Maddie and I want to thank all our family, friends and the caregivers, Frederick Health and Meritus Medical Hospital for caring for our beloved husband, father and DADA.
