Lee, a native of Rome, was the son of the late Jack and Ruth Lee Robinson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Scales Robinson and his brother, John Kennedy Robinson. Robinson began his military career with a tour of Vietnam in 1968 and retired with the rank of Colonel in the late 1990's. His love for country is evidenced by his commitment to continue service throughout his 31 year Army Reserve career from War College in Pennsylvania to Commander of Bright Star in Egypt. Col. Robinson was a leader who transferred his military training to other areas of his life.
Lee was elected to the Georgia State Senate in 1974 serving Bibb and Monroe counties for eight years. After the Senate, Lee fulfilled a dream by attending Mercer Law School while obtaining his MBA. He was elected Macon Mayor in 1997. As a civic leader, Lee served on many committees and boards, any times as the Chairman; Middle GA Cancer Society , Alzheimer's Association , Cherry Blossom Festival, Macon Jaycees, Rotary Club, Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful and more and always with a love for the best way to use his service to the glory of his mighty God.
Lee was serving as the Circuit Public Defender for Macon-Bibb and surrounding counties upon his death. He believed in second chances and was working hard to find alternative rehabilitation programs. He was a champion for those less fortunate and those in trouble.
Lee loved the Lord. He was a founding member of Ingleside Baptist Church, a deacon, an overseer, a Sunday School teacher, and an avid participant and leader of mission trips in many areas of the world. Ingleside has always held a special place in his heart.
Survivors include his devoted daughters, Chris (Jeff) Simmons of Flowery Branch and Jackie (Kevin) Castellow of Marietta; his beloved grandchildren; Avery Beth, Will, Katie and Gunnar; his much loved extended family.
