William "Bill" Joseph Pleasants, Sr., President and CEO of Plaza Appliance Mart and longtime resident of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home on Sunday March 20, 2022 at the age of 81 years old.
Bill was born on February 24,1941 in Jacksonville, Florida, son of the late Louise Collins Pleasants. He graduated from William E Grady Vocational High School in June of 1959. In 1960, Bill enlisted in the United States Airforce where he specialized in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning. He was honorably discharged in 1966 as an E-5 Staff Sergeant after dutifully serving 6 years during the Vietnam conflict.
In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Anne Hull Pleasants; his sister Ruth Markham and brother Robert Pleasants. Bill was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his children, Darlene Brown, Bill Pleasants, Jr. (Kim), Ruth Edwards (Kevin), Clint Pleasants (Andrea); his grandchildren, Randall Hildreth (Candice), Kayleigh Kent (Ashley), Whitney Hollopeter (Noah), Britton Edwards, Justin Pleasants (Lorraine), Alyssa Edwards, Hunter Edwards, William Pleasants, Cheyenne Brown, Dylan Pleasants; his great-grandchildren, Sophia Hildreth, Bella Hildreth, Lakelyn Pleasants, Michael Hollopeter, Brielle Hildreth and Lennon Kent; by many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his very special friend and companion, Joan Brooks.
Bill was the President and CEO of Plaza Appliance Mart, a family-owned business that has been serving the Charlotte, NC market since 1949. He served for decades at the regional and national levels for AVB (Associated Volume Buyers) BrandSource including President of the region, National President National Chairman of the Board and the first Hall of Fame Honoree in AVB. Bill Sr. enjoyed his daily visits to the corporate office long after passing the operational leadership on to his oldest son Bill Jr. The legacy of serving the Carolinas at the highest level of care will continue under the leadership of Bill Jr and his amazing Plaza Appliance team.
The family will be receiving visitors on Friday, April 1, 2022 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Service - Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road Charlotte, NC 28210. A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 PM April 2,2022 at Central Church, 5301 Sardis Road Charlotte, NC 28270. Memorial contributions may be given in lieu of flowers to Autism Charlotte or Hoskins Park Ministries. The management and staff of all McEwen Funeral Service locations are honored to serve the family of Mr. William Pleasants Sr.
