William Louis "Billy" Pierce passed away, peacefully, on Monday, January 3, 2022, in San Angelo, Texas. Billy was born on September 15, 1938, in Houston, Texas, to O.L. and Mary Eleanor Pierce. Not long after he was born, his family moved to San Angelo, Texas, where he graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1957. Billy was an amazing athlete and it showed as he played for the Central Bobcats and went on to play for the Angelo State Rams. Billy served in the United States Navy where he was at one time stationed at Pearl Harbor. When Billy was 10 years old, he gave his life to Christ. He was a light to so many people. I don't know if we will ever know the full impact of a life well lived in Christ, like Billy's life. Billy was devoted to God, his family, and working. He taught his children to love and follow Christ, in good times and bad times. He served the Church with such steadfastness. Billy was a devout Dallas Cowboys fan. No one was a bigger fan of America's Team than him. He was also an avid sports enthusiast and loved to cheer on his children and grandchildren in all their various sports activities. Billy had an impeccable work ethic that he passed along to his children. He was also a great illustrative artist who drew fantastic sports cartoons to encourage his favorite teams. For a time, he drew sports cartoons for a local newspaper in San Angelo. Billy never longed for the fancy things of this world, just drawing, fishing and sports, and spending time with his family. If you had to use one word to describe Billy, that word would be "coach." God gave him the gift to be one amazing coach to his family and to so many people. He will be missed beyond measure. Billy is survived by: his three children and their spouses, Rachel Dawn Wilson and Michael Wilson of San Angelo, Texas, Waylon Lief Pierce and Blair Danielle Pierce of Granbury, Texas, and Nory Lyn Callaway and Joel Kenneth Callaway of Mertzon, Texas; his stepson, Stephen Blake Rogers of League City, Texas; his sister, Alice Cochran and her husband, Darrell of China Spring, Texas; his ten grandchildren, William Newt Kitchens, Ashley Rebecca Rogers, Clayton Pierce Kitchens, Jordan Blake Rogers, Berkley Rose Callaway, Wrenn Presley Pierce, Faryn Law Callaway, Bella Grace Callaway, Wridge Lowe Pierce, and Micah Pearl Callaway; one great-granddaughter, Emma Rae Kitchens; his cousin Eddie Ray Hendrickson; his best friend Jerry Bob Kemp and a multitude of close nieces, nephews, and cousins. Billy was preceded in death by his father, O. L. Pierce; his mother, Mary Eleanor Dean; his sisters, Carolyn Fox and June Balentine, and his brother, Walter Pierce.
