William David Lanier 85 of Buckhead, GA passed away at his daughter's home Friday, October 29, 2021. He was born October 26, 1936, in Crawfordville, GA in Taliaferro County to the late William Henry Lanier and Jessie Mae Ivie Lanier. On May 15, 1959, he married the former Peggy Ann Elder. He served his country in the United States Army Special Forces serving 3 years with the Green Beret. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. Although William retired from General Motors, where he was a maintenance supervisor, he worked all his life serving others. His last date of working was the day before he died. He also enjoyed working in his yard.
In addition to his wife of sixty-two years, Peggy Ann Elder Lanier of Buckhead, GA, he is survived by his children, Ron Lanier, Rick Lanier (Stacy), Rhonda Lanier Pepper (Robert), and Ralph Lanier (Cathy); sister, Mary Frances Guill; and brother, John Allen Lanier (Sandra); nine grandchildren: Chase Lanier (Robin), Amber Vanderheyden (Rich), Nicholas Lanier (Ramsey), Elizabeth Lanier, Rebekah Harris (Aaron), Sarah Catherine Pepper, Paul Pepper, Andrew Pepper and Blake Lanier; and three great grandchildren: Amelia Lanier, William Lanier and Annabeth Harris. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Martha Ann Lanier Turner and brother, Preston Lanier.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 1400 Farmington Road, Madison, GA 30650 with Rev. Mike Pritchett officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Jon Dyar, Ricky Curtis, Charles Crumbley, Ray Duvall, Ray Sellers, and Andy Dyar. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Duvall and Melvin Duvall. The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at New Hope Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service.
