William G. LaCells, 79, of Southington, beloved husband of Donna (Davis) LaCells, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain after a courageous battle with cancer. William was born in Hartford on March 4, 1943 and was the son of the late Gerald and Adelaide (Phillips) LaCells. After high school and a brief tour in the United States Navy, William began a long career as a telephone line technician with SNET where he was instrumental in bringing cellular phone service to Connecticut. Bill was a stamp collector and an avid mystery book reader (especially Ellery Queen novels). He enjoyed fishing, talking politics, and his weekly Friday breakfasts with friends at the Carousel Coffee Shop. Visiting the New Britain Museum of American Art with his granddaughter, Sarah, was his favorite pastime. He was a past member of the BPOE Lodge Number 1669 of Southington and the Quartet Club of New Britain. Besides his wife Donna, to whom he was married for over 55 years, Bill is survived by his children, daughter Diane Lamb and her husband Chris of Southington and also by his son, Randy LaCells and his wife Deborah of Bristol. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Sarah Lamb of New York. Bill was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth (Betty) LaCells. A memorial service for Bill will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington, CT 06489. Burial will be private. A calling hour from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM will be held prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in William's memory may be made to the New Britain Museum of American Art, 56 Lexington St. New Britain, CT 06052.
