92, of Thomasville, formally of Massillon, Ohio passed away Friday, July 1, 2022 at Piedmont Crossing Retirement Home. William C. Hild, former school administrator of the Mayfield Schools, was born in Brazil in 1929 to Karl Daniel Hild and Louise Ahrens Hild and was brought to Massillon, Ohio, by his parents when he was nine months old. He graduated from Washington High School in Massillon in 1949 and then entered Heidelberg College where he graduated in 1953 after majoring in history, political science and elementary education. During his tenure in Mayfield Schools, Mr. Hild worked closely with the students, teachers, parents in the special education classes at Lander School. He was one of those instrumental in bringing back to the Mayfield Schools those with special education students in County classes to be educated with the normal population of the Mayfield Schools. Those students eventually graduated from Mayfield High School. At Case Western Reserve University where Mr. Hild received his Master's Degree in 1955, he was a founder for the Greater Cleveland Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa where he served as President for two years. Because of his interest in special education, Mr. Hild was one of the founders of the Youth Enrichment Services which at first held summer camps for the retarded and then later provided vocational training. Mr. Hild was married to Irene Wessman in 1954 who passed away in 2017. Mr. Hild is survived by his son David Hild and wife Jennifer of Durham along with their children, Ashley and Alicia. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Eric Hild in September 2020. One of Mr. Hild's favorite activities was to keep in contact with former Lander School staff members and students. A private burial will be held at Brookfield Cemetery in Massillon, Ohio.
