Born on September 7, 1961, Mr. Haberlein was the son of the late William Lewis Haberlein and Nora Delores "Dee" (Martin) Goldsworthy, currently of Fort Collins, CO. He was also preceded in death by his in-law's, Carol Ann (Leasure) McDonald and James Allan McDonald formerly of Frostburg.
Billy was a 1979 graduate of Beall Jr.-Sr. High School and a graduate of Allegany Community College, Cumberland with an Associate of Arts Degree in Media Technology. Luke was employed for the past 37 years at Neutron Products, Inc. in Dickerson, MD.
In the early 1980's, Luke took his childhood passion for comic books and turned that passion into a very successful business venture. He and his wife opened Atomic Comics in downtown Hagerstown where Luke has shared his love of comics and other collectibles with the community for more than four decades. The comic bookstore served as a place for the local community to feel welcome and free to express their love of comics. Luke truly enjoyed the connections that he made with his faithful subscribers, many of whom he has watched grow up and had the pleasure of instilling the same love of comic books that he had as a child. Luke and his family were avid car enthusiast and enjoyed classic cars and going to car shows.
Luke leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Lori Haberlein of Smithsburg, a son Lucas Haberlein and wife Darla of Williamsport, and a daughter Ashley Haberlein of Smithsburg. In addition to his mother Delores, he is also survived by two sisters, Vickie Moon and husband Bruce of Carlsbad, CA and their son Bryce and sister Linda Haberlein of Fort Collins, CO. He also is survived by a sister-in-law Cathy Wakefield and husband Jamie along with their two sons Jacob and Justin Wakefield.
A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave. Smithsburg, MD, on Monday, October 4, 2021, from 6-8pm with a service at 8pm. A private graveside service for family will be held at a later date in Frostburg Memorial Park, Frostburg, MD.
