William "Bill" Givens passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at the age of 82 in his home in Durham, NH.
Bill was many things - a soft-spoken mechanical engineer who built and raced his own Formula B cars, a respected and humble entrepreneur with a talent for rescuing failing companies, and a caring and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. His most defining characteristic, however, was his lifelong love for the outdoors and his passion for Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He reveled in decades of skiing, rock climbing, ice climbing, fishing, hiking, and mountaineering in the Tetons as well as many other wild places around the world. He loved his Moose, Wyoming ranch more than any place on earth, and treated a wide range of friends and family there to adventure, geology lessons, elk-filled pastures, and starry skies.
He is survived by his cherished wife of 60 years, Sandy Givens; his daughter, Julie Givens, and her husband Javier Jimenez; and was predeceased by his son, Mark Givens. He was the loved and loving grandfather to Ellis and Ansel Givens; Kai, Mateo, and Zuri Jimenez; and Mason and Alden Rice.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Parish Church in York, Maine, followed by a memorial service in summer 2023 in Jackson, Wyoming. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of Bill's most beloved organizations, the Jenny Lake Rangers, the elite Search and Rescue team of Grand Teton National Park. To do so, go to www.gtnpf.org/donate, and specify Jenny Lake Rangers in the designation and/or comment box.
