William "Bill" Vernon Gent of Corryton, TN, left this world for his Heavenly home on February 5, 2022. William was born to James Vernon Gent and Anna Louise Gent (formerly Burnside) in Augsburg, Germany on July 8, 1955. His father was stationed there while serving in the U.S. Army.
William graduated from Parkersburg South High School in 1973 and married his wife, Ruth Anne Trippett, in 1974. William served as a second lieutenant in the Air Force and obtained his Master's Degree in Accounting from Eastern Montana College in Billings, MT. William became a Certified Public Accountant and started Gent and Company accounting firm with his father in Belpre, Ohio.
William was curious and well-read. He was a devout Christian and studied the Bible extensively. Among his many interests were playing guitar, listening to music, and growing fruit trees. Along with his wife, Ruth, he devoted his life to caring for their middle child, Laura, who was born with developmental delays and required lifelong care. William adored all three of his children, Jennifer, Laura, and Matthew, as well as his five grandsons. He passed on a love of learning as well as a spirit of independent thinking and caring for others to his children. He taught them to work hard and never give up when faced with hardship. They had many unforgettable adventures as a family and traveled throughout the US together when his children were young.
William is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ruth Anne Gent (formerly Trippett), as well as his son, Matthew Gent (wife Amanda) and his daughter Jennifer Williamson (husband Martin). He is also survived by five grandsons, Eli Gent, Camdyn Gent, Liam Williamson, Nate Williamson, and Tom Williamson. He is survived by his brother, Michael Gent, and sisters Cheryl Jones, Pauline Lewis, and Pam Lysack. His sister Pauline was one of his best friends. He dearly loved his sister-in-law Bridgett "Kitty" Trippett, whom he is survived by, as well as her husband and William's brother-in-law, Ronald Trippett.
William was recently proceeded in death by his beloved daughter, Laura Lee Gent. He was also proceeded in death by his father, James Vernon Gent, his mother Anna Louise Gent, and his sister Deborah Hitt. His mother-in-law Anna Trippett and his brother-in-law James Trippett also preceded him in death.
William was loved deeply and will be missed terribly. A celebration of life for William and his daughter Laura will be held in the spring.
