William A. C. Francis, age 82, of Copley, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 24, 2021.
He was born September 14, 1938, in Pittsburgh, PA; beloved son of the late Albert C. and Cecelia H. (nee Schmidt) Francis.
Devoted husband of Margaret Francis; cherished father of Karen (David) Francis, William A. C. Francis, Jr, and James Michael (Nicole) Francis; beloved grandfather of Sam, David, Hayden, Nick, and Cooper; treasured brother of A. Sylvia Francis and the late John Francis.
William grew up in Shadyside, Pennsylvania. He enjoyed reading and spent many hours writing stories loosely based on his childhood. William dedicated over 40 years as a professor at the University of Akron where he retired as Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He has made a meaningful impact on countless students by sharing his love of literature and providing guidance.
He loved to travel and visit new places, but a few of his favorite destinations were New Orleans, New York, and San Francisco. William could never pass up an opportunity to take long walks, engage in good conversation, and enjoy a nice meal with the people he loved.
All services private. William will be inurned at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, in Pittsburgh, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in William's name are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
