William (Bill) Alban Farmer of Port St. Lucie passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital at the age of 86.
Bill was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada on May 19, 1934 to Michael Alban and Dorothea (McMillan) Farmer. He was raised on the island and attended St. Dunstan's University there. Wanderlust led him to employment at the Harmony Hall Hotel on the island of Bermuda, where he would meet the love of his life, who was vacationing with a friend on the island after nursing school. Bill married Brenda in Kingston, Pennsylvania on September 25, 1965. Together, they would move across the country and raise two children before finally realizing their dream of "retiring" in Florida.
Bill spent 30+ years in the hospitality and country club industries, including such prestigious clubs as Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York, the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio and Hermitage Country Club in the Richmond, Virginia area. He received his Certified Club Manager designation from the Club Managers Association of America and served as chapter president in various locations.
After this first act of his professional life, Bill took up a second career as a bagger at the Publix Supermarket in St. Lucie West. For the last 25 years of his life, "Mr. Bill" spent his time greeting, charming, joking with, getting to know and bagging for the customers of the store, making more friends and admirers than baggers should be allowed to make. Bill was also a dedicated Notre Dame football fan, who enjoyed working in his yard, puttering in the garage and indulging in hors d'oeuvres and a few very cold beers before dinner.
Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Brenda (Stoneham), his son Sean (Shelly) Farmer, of Toledo, Ohio, his daughter Colleen Farmer, of Newport, Kentucky, his sister Mary (Bertrand) Plamondon, of Charlottetown, PEI, his brother Michael (Susan) Farmer of Stratford, PEI and numerous nephews and nieces. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Michael and Dorothea Farmer, and his sister Eleanor and brother-in-law Ronald Dalzell.
Friends are invited to stop by the Aycock at Tradition Funeral Home at 12571 Tradition Parkway, Port St. Lucie, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM on Sunday, March 14 to share memories of Bill as well as some food and drink.
