William Robert Doan departed this earth for his heavenly home on Friday, December 23, 2022. "Bobby" peacefully passed into God's arms surrounded by his loving family and devoted wife as the morning sun streamed through the windows and fresh snow lay on the ground.
Bobby was born on August 10, 1944, in Pongo, KY, affectionately known as the Ridge to his parents Valinchia (Mink) and Delbert Doan. He earned his licenses as a plumber and electrician at Somerset Community College. He was an excellent contractor and used his skills to build his family a beautiful home among the pines. He was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church and received the honor as a Kentucky Colonel.
Bobby was self-described as an ole country boy. He was a trickster to those he loved most. He told stories about 30 dollar leather jackets, 10 dollar Levi's, and movies that cost a dime. He drove his vehicles too fast, and never backed down from a fight. He never forgot to tell his guests there was ice cream in the freezer and Coke in the garage. Bobby grew hot peppers in his garden, not because he liked them, but because he liked to watch other people eat them; he would laugh at their panting and cries for cold milk. He enjoyed sitting out on the porch, feeling the sun on his skin as he watched the hummingbirds, chipmunks, and deer. A cup of hot coffee was always at his side. Bobby was an avid reader and would sit for hours with a Louis L'Amour novel in his hand.
Bobby married his soulmate Terri (Taylor) on September 29, 1975. He loved his wife fiercely just as she loved him for 47 years. Together, they were a beautiful couple devoted to each other and to the family they created. This, above all, is Bobby's legacy.
He is survived by his courageous wife Terri of Somerset, KY, and his five children - Sheila Loveless of Somerset, KY, Katrina (and Mike) Newkirk of Clarksville, Ohio, Angie (and Andy) Maybrier of Somerset, KY, Robyn (and Mike) Gregory of Somerset, KY, and Ryan (and Jessie) Doan of Somerset, KY. Bobby is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren on the way. Bobby also leaves behind on earth two sisters, Linda (and Kent) Ward of Mainville, OH, and Teresa and (Terry) Brown of Wilmington, OH.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents Delbert and Valinchia Doan, two brothers, Donald and Tillman Doan, and a sister, Doris Hodges.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 29, 2022 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
His funeral service will follow on Thursday at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Rankin officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
