William "Andy" Dannels of Lewiston, NY, age 92, died peacefully on January 15 in St. Petersburg, FL. The long-time resident of Grand Island will be remembered with much love by his nine children, 18 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and his beloved companion of 22 years, Joan Heine. He was predeceased by his loving wife Arline (nee Adler) in 1997. Their nine children are Wayne of Mentor, OH, Susan Leach of Walden, NY, Diane Hannon of Oglesby, TX, Paul of Clarkston, MI, David of Rota, Spain, Christine Dawson of Brush Prairie, WA, Wendy of Brighton, NY, Colleen Cardarella of Grand Island, and Allen of Clackamas, OR. He is also survived by a sister, Joann Carbone, of Gainesville, FL and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Bobby Dannels and sister Peggy Wilson. Andy was raised in Buffalo where he graduated from Bennett High School and then earned a degree in chemistry at Canisius College. He was employed by Durez Plastics, Hooker Chemical and Occidental Chemical. During his 40 year career he was awarded several patents in the field of plastics engineering. His interests included skiing, fishing, gardening and sailing. He was a member of Sandy Beach Yacht Club, where he raced a lightning sailboat that he built by hand. Over the years he also enjoyed trips to many countries around the world. Though a seasoned traveler, Andy was known especially for his devotion to home life--raising his family and making the home a pleasant place for all. He will be remembered as an honest, hard-working, wise, and caring person. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
