William Correll
Help us celebrate William! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember William.
William (Bill) E. Correll of Mystic, CT passed quietly in his sleep on Monday, May 22, 2023 at the age of 88.
Bill was born in Detroit, Michigan and lived there until he joined the Air Force after high school. He often spoke about his first job delivering groceries to the wealthy residents of Detroit. Shortly after high school Bill joined the Air Force in the Strategic Air Command as a Rear Tail Gunner and Navigation Systems Technician. Along with several stateside postings he was deployed to Morocco.
Bill spent most of his career with the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics and worked his way up to the Trident Submarine Program Manager...not bad for a high school graduate.
Within the years of career building, he also raised a family of six children and managed to find some leisure time where he developed a love of golf. He fulfilled his dream of retiring to a golf community in Florida in the 1990's. He and his wife Mary Ann enjoyed traveling, were avid cruisers, and took many international trips.
William was predeceased by his daughters Diane and Laura. He will be greatly missed by his wife Mary Ann; sons Bill, David and Tom; his daughter, Christine and step-sons, David and Jonathan along with their wives and children. He will also be dearly remembered by his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A calling hour for Bill will be Monday, May 29th from 6-7 pm at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 in Mystic. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 30th at 11:00 am at the Mystic Congregational Church 43 East Main St. Mystic. His burial will follow the church service at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic with military honors.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to: The Connecticut Lions Eye Research Foundation (CLERF) PO Box 848 Watertown, CT 06795.
