William "Bill" Adrian Cope, 96, formerly of Stockbridge, Georgia passed away peacefully in Doniphan, Missouri at the home of his daughter on August 26, 2022. He was born in Huntsville, Alabama to the late Grundy C. Cope and Nellie Foster Cope. He is preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Doris Lee Cope, his granddaughter, Teresa (Matt) Cruce Landsea and his great-grandson, Justin Lee Cruce.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Jane (Don) Cruce of Suches, Georgia and Marie (Dave) Shifflett of Doniphan, Missouri, his grandchildren David (Missy) Cruce, Adrienne (Gabe) Cruce Garcia, Sheena (Simon) Cruce Fox and Stephen Shifflett, eleven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
After graduation from Riverton High School, he served honorably in the US Navy during WWII as an aviation mechanic and tail gunner on a TBM Avenger. His love of planes led him to a career with Delta Air Lines in Atlanta, Georgia that spanned 38 years. After retirement, he was active with the Delta Pioneers for many years. He was part of the crew of volunteers that rebuilt the DC-3 that is currently displayed in the Delta Museum. He also loved Studebakers and owned several over the years displaying them at various shows while belonging to the North Georgia Studebaker Club. He and his wife loved to travel and camp and saw much of the United States as a result.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022, beginning 1:00 PM in the East Chapel at Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Rev. Andy Postell officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in McDonough, GA. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 2, 2022, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
