William "Baylis" Nitchell, 83, of Osceola, entered into his eternal home on February 6, 2022. He was born on August 1, 1938 to the late Mary Jane and Remus Nitchell in Athens, Alabama. Baylis restored radio flyer wagons after he retired. He was famous for his gardening and he was a very skilled welder. Baylis was a supervisor for 20 of the 40 years that he worked at Beck Corporation. He really enjoyed his retirement years and the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren. Baylis attended St. Mark Missionary Church in Mishawaka.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Boy Nitchell; brother, Doris Ben Nitchell; brothers-in-law, Wayne Eggleston, Mike Detwiler Sr., and James Davis.
Baylis is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judy (Kaisner) Nitchell; daughter, Cheryl Ann (Michael) Croy; granddaughter, Alexandria (Jenson) Phillips; grandson, Zach Croy; granddog, Oscar; sisters, Ann (Mike) O'Connell, Lutie Davis, and Darlene Detwiler; brother, Johnny (Cheryl) Nitchell; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 11, 2022 from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM with the Funeral Service to follow at 6:00 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home,10776 McKinley Hwy., Osceola, IN 46561. Burial will be held privately in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Mark Missionary Church in Mishawaka or to Center for Hospice Care- Mishawaka. Services have been entrusted to Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Face masks are required to enter the funeral home.
