William James Ashley, 58 years, of Port Deposit, MD, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2022 at his residence following a brief illness. Born April 27, 1964 in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of Gerald J. Ashley and the late Marilyn J. Webb.
William was a graduate of the Rising Sun High School Class of 1983. Following graduation, he went on to become an Operating Engineer working out of Local No. 37 in Baltimore, MD. He also worked alongside his mom at the Midway Inn helping her complete the day-to-day operations until its closing in 1998.
As a child, William grew up on a farm in Quaryville, PA, where he attended the Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church until his family moved to Cecil County, MD. He loved the freedom of being on the farm, fishing in the creek, hunting, planting crops, riding his motorcycle, and being with his friends who lived on surrounding farms. William won several marksmanship awards during his years. He considered those the best years of his life. William will always be remembered for his love of the Dallas Cowboys, baseball, his beautiful smile, and his love of animals.
William leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Jamie Underwood; father, Gerald J. Ashley; sister, Renee A. Smith; brother-in-law, William T. Smith III; niece, Elizabeth A. Smith; aunt, Teresa Ashley; uncle, William C. Webb, Jr.; and cousins, Lauren and Shaw Miseyko.
William was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn J. Webb, who passed in 2015; paternal grandparents, James and Maxine Ashley; and maternal grandparents, William C., Sr., and Elaine Webb.
Interment will be held at a later date in the Blevins Cemetery, White Top, VA.
