Willard Martin Whiteman, 75, of Elkton, Maryland, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
Will was the son of the late Willard L. and Mary Alice Buskirk Whiteman. Born in Elkton, MD, he spent his early years in Warwick, MD, and north Chesapeake City, MD, before relocating to Elkton as a young teen. He was a graduate of Elkton High School, attended the University of Maryland, and he was among the first graduating class of Cecil Community College.
For more than five decades, Will dedicated his career to land surveying, earning his Property Line Surveyor license and founding Will Whiteman Land Surveying, Inc. in 1984. He was also a respected member of the Cecil County Board of Appeals. Though he never fully retired from surveying, in recent years Will renewed his artistic talents in painting and also began woodworking design. A man of deep intellect, Will had a voracious curiosity and was well-versed in subjects ranging from philosophy to quantum physics.
Above all, Will treasured time spent with his family and friends. His presence filled countless holiday celebrations, NFL and MLB games, and weekend outings. His love of music, including classic rock and classic country, was a constant companion throughout his life.
Will is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Rosemary Simeone Whiteman; daughters Katie Angulo of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Sarah Whiteman of North East, MD; his brother Edward Whiteman of Palm Coast, FL (Denise Copenhaver); stepchildren Jeff Jackson of New York, NY (Greg Kramer) and Rachel Dunham of Arlington, MA (Nick Dunham); as well as his beloved grandchildren: Gabriel, Nathan, and Ronan Angulo, Clara, Claudia, and Gwen Angell, and Charlie and Romy Dunham; and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Will was preceded in death by his siblings, Catherine Reeder, William Whiteman, and Mary Ellen Smith.
Will's family and friends will miss him deeply, finding comfort in the many memories shared with him. Farewell, Mr. Will. You will be forever loved and cherished.
A Celebration of Life in Will's honor is being planned for a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cecil County Food Bank, in care of Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD 21901.
