Willa Dean (Cox) Lopez or Willy as her siblings lovingly referred to her, passed away after a brief illness at the age of 90. Willa Dean was born to Forrest and Marion Cox in Charlottesville, Indiana in April of 1934 and became a longtime resident of Greenfield, Indiana.
Anyone who knew Willa Dean knew of her tenacious spirit, devotion to her family and her passion for reading. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, attending volksmarches with her husband and sisters and frequenting garage sales.
As the family grieves her loss, they take comfort that she was welcomed home by her beloved husband, Lou; her parents; stepson, Monte Lopez; multiple in-laws; and her best friends, Cherie, Nancy, Marlene, and Rose Mary who all proceeded her in death.
She is survived by her siblings, Sue (Sonny) Martin, Sonja Dearing, Judy Boyer, and Bobby "Sonny" (Linda) Cox; children, Dan (Deb) Coleman, Laura (Wally) VanGorp, Lisa (Daryl) Cole, and Maria "Cricket" (Randy) Crawford; stepdaughters, Hazel (Harlan) Boyd and Julie (Kevin) Mayes; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; special cousin, Terrie VanMarter; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held following the visitation at 1:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield, Indiana.
