Willa was born April 20, 1929 in Burlington, WA to Carl and Lennie Davenport. She grew up in the small community of Belfast (Bow Hill) and attended a one room school house until the 8th grade. She graduated from Burlington-Edison High School in 1946 at the top of her class. After high school she worked in the Skagit County Assessors Office.
She met Don Hansen at a dance after the war. When our dad asked her to dance she told him "no, you've had too much to drink" but he was such a good dancer she changed her mind and we're so glad she did!
Don and Willa were married on March 6, 1948. They had four children and when her youngest was in kindergarten, she began a 27 year career in Cardinal bookstore at Skagit Valley College. They took many vacations to Lake Chelan, camping and boating. The traditions still continue today. They loved socializing with many friends and dancing Saturday nights at the ELKS. After retiring they spent many years as "snow birds" in Desert Hot Springs, CA. They took cruises and traveled through Europe. Willa was a life long bridge player and played right up to her death.
She belonged to the Cora Jennings Children's Orthopedic Guild, was active in the Avon Methodist Church (Golden Girls).
Willa was extremely proud of her family...She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald D Hansen; brother, Ralph Davenport and grandson, Gregg Collins. She is survived by Barb (Stephen) Murphy, Larry (Lori) Hansen, Donna Bailey (Anton) and Danny (Linda) Hansen; grandchildren: Kevin (Stephanie) Collins, Scott Collins, Stephanie (Andrew) Welch, Jacob Cheek, Roxanne (Devan) Ballard, Vanessa (Derek) Gillooly, John Hansen, Jaxson Hansen, Zach Hansen and Kate Hansen; great-grandchildren: Kain, Owen, Kaydn, Kate, Keegan, Hadley, Logan, Weston, Morgan, Camden, Prescott and Beau.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Willa's name to Hospice of the Northwest, Meals on Wheels or the Children's Orthopedic Hospital. We wish to thank her care givers, Brenda, Alma and her granddaughter, Roxanne for the amazing care they gave our mom in her last few months. Willa will be placed with her husband at Burlington Greenhills Cemetery. A memorial service will be planned for December.
