Wilfred Bradley Smith, Jr., age 88, of St. Simons Island, Georgia passed away peacefully on April 22, 2022. He was born on August 28, 1933 in Laurens County, South Carolina and was raised in Alma, Georgia. He was the son of Wilfred Bradley Smith, Sr. and Pairly Abercrombie Smith.
Wilfred graduated from Bacon County High School in 1950 and remained very active with the graduating class over the years. He attended Georgia Institute of Technology and graduated with a degree in Industrial Management. He served in the US Army as a Military Intelligence Investigator and was honorably discharged in 1959.
During his business career he focused on Human Resources serving with companies including Rayonier, Coats & Clark Inc, and Albany First Federal Saving and Loan before starting his own recruiting agency.
Wilfred was married to Judith Tyre Smith of Coffee, Georgia for 65 years before she passed away in February 2021. Wilfred and Judy dated in high school and were married on July 31, 1955 at Antioch Baptist Church in Bacon County, Georgia. Wilfred was dedicated to his family and the absolute love of his life, Judy.
While in Albany Wilfred and his family were members of First Baptist Church where Wilfred served as a Deacon. He was also active with other civic organizations including the Albany Urban League, the Chamber of Commerce, and the American Red Cross.
Wilfred and Judy moved to St. Simons Island in 2003 where he continued his active service as a member and Deacon at First Baptist Church St Simons.
Wilfred was preceded in death by his wife Judy, his parents Wilfred Sr. and Pairly Smith, his brother-in-law George Wilson and his sister Kathryn Smith Wilson. Survivors include his daughter Dr. Rebecca Smith Sterling (Dr. John) of San Antonio, and his sons Brad Smith III of McRae and Clint Smith of St. Simons Island. He is also survived by his four granddaughters Alexandra Sterling, Rachel Sterling, Elizabeth Sterling Elder (Steven), and Madison Smith.
Wilfred loved his family, adored his wife, and had complete and peaceful confidence in his eternal life in Jesus Christ. Today he is dancing with the angels and walking the heavenly beaches hand-in-hand with his beloved wife Judy.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Antioch Baptist Church, Bacon County, Georgia at 11:00am with his nephew, the Reverend Chip Wilson officiating. Crosby Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
