Wiley Grimes Griste III (aka Butch) passed away at home in Port Charlotte, FL on August 3, 2022 after a short battle with cancer. His wife and children were by his side.
Butch was born on October 28, 1946 in Florence, SC. He grew up in Ocean Drive, SC. It was here that he developed a passion for being on the water and fishing.
In 1968 Butch moved to Islamorada, FL to pursue his passion for fishing. After getting his captains license, he was a back country guide and a captain of a sport fishing boat. It was here that he met his wife of 50 years, Diane Winegarden.
Butch made a career change in 1983 and went to work in the construction industry. It was his privilege to build many beautiful custom homes with Coastal Construction for 37 years. He was respected for his work ethic and attention to detail. When not working he pursued his passion for gardening and fishing.
Butch and Diane resided in Key Largo for nearly 50 years. Here they raised their daughter Shannon, sons Wiley (Rocky) and Jeremy. His wife Diane, his children and grandchildren Holden, Soleil and Ammalee were the loves of his life.
Butch is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, daughter-in-law Melisa, his brother Bill and his spouse Janet, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at First Baptist Church of Key Largo on Saturday, September 10 at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to One More Child at
