Wendy Hayes Begansky, 61, of Simsbury, beloved wife for 30 years of the late Ronald John Begansky, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, surrounded by her family and friends at her home. Born in Meriden on October 24, 1957, she was raised in Meriden and was a graduate of Maloney High School, Class of 1975. After high school, Wendy continued her education at the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing and graduated with the Class of 1978 as a registered nurse. She started her career at Hartford Hospital and later became a nursing supervisor for Geriatric Rehab where she met her husband Ronald. Wendy also worked at the American Red Cross before suffering injuries in a car accident that prevented her from returning to work as a nurse. Wendy's devout Christian faith and her care for other people led her to study to be a chaplain at the Andover Newton Theological Seminary in Newton, MA. A Granby resident for almost 20 years, Wendy was very involved in the community as a member of the Granby Newcomers and the Granby Civic Club. She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Granby where she served on the Missions and Outreach Committees. Most of all, Wendy tried to live her life by the Golden Rule doing for others as she would want for herself. She spent hours each week writing hand-written letters to family and friends encouraging them and letting them know that they were in her thoughts and prayers. She leaves two brothers, Wayne Hayes of Santa Fe, NM and David Hayes of Somers; a nephew, David George Hayes of Shelton; a niece, Jessica Frangiamore of Enfield; four great-nieces and nephews; two cousins, Susan King of Meriden and Steven Ayers of Watertown; and a special friend, Sandi Kingsley and her husband Kevin of The Villages, FL. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her mother, Arlene Hayes; and a close friend, Denise Beal. Her family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, October 18, 10 a.m.-12 Noon, followed by a memorial service at 12 Noon, at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. Burial will follow in Granby Cemetery. Wendy requested that memorial contributions be made to Days for Girls/Kenyan Health Care Initiatives, 683 Estelle Court, Orange, CT 06477 or by visiting, www.daysforgirls.org or to the Hartford Chorale, 233 Pearl St., Suite #17, Hartford, CT 06103.
