Wayne Woody went to be with the Lord on January 9, 2021 in Odessa, Texas. He was eighty-seven years of age and born on February 22nd, 1933 in Murphy, North Carolina. He was the oldest of ten children born to Hosea and Edna Woody of North Carolina. After Edna Woody's death Hosea remarried Viola and two additional children born. He moved to Oregon with his parents at a young age. He served in the Korean War. After returning home from Korea, he met the love of his life, Lillian Hageman. They were married on July 16, 1955 after a whirlwind courtship. They were married sixty-five years.
His employment was working in the timber in Oregon, then managed a crew as a head sawyer in a hardwood lumber company.
He pursued his calling to go into the ministry to become a pastor. He received training through correspondence and became ordained as a minister in 1966 with the Assemblies of God. He pastored several churches from the Northwest to the Southwest, started two churches. He was asked by his superiors several times to go to different struggling churches to help them. He served his district of the Assemblies of God as Church Planter to find locations to start new churches, served on committees in his section. Also served as presbyter of the Rio Grande Valley, Texas. He retired in Monahans, Texas in 2005 after pastoring for forty-five years. He was a devoted pastor and was loved by his congregations and friends. Many kept in contact with him through the years. He received a special award with the Assemblies of God in 2017 for being ordained fifty years. After living in Monahans for fourteen years, he moved to Odessa in 2013 after his home burned to be closer to three of his children.
He left behind his wife, Lillian Woody, 5 children and their spouses, siblings as well as several grand and great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Perches Funeral Choices in Odessa, Texas. The viewing will be held at Cornerstone Worship Center, 1821 E. Yukon Road, Odessa, Texas Friday, January 15th from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the same location on Saturday January 16th at 10:00 AM with Rev. Timothy Woody and Rev. Paul Thompson presiding. Graveside and Burial will follow at the Monahans Memorial Cemetery.
