Wayne Benjamin Honeycutt, 93, a longtime resident of Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. He was born on January 13, 1930 in Oakdale, Tennessee to Farrell and Tressie Langley Honeycutt. He graduated from Oakdale High School in 1949 and began working on the Southern Railroad in Chattanooga, TN. He married Rena Mae Melhorn on March 17, 1950. Wayne and Rena moved to Fort Oglethorpe in 1954.
Wayne was active in the Post Recreation Association best known as PRA. He coached the Dixie Youth Baseball for many years, taking the All-Star team to the Dixie Youth World Series in 1966. He served on the Fort Oglethorpe Recreation Board and was recognized with a plaque for 17 years of service. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Fort Oglethorpe and the Builders Sunday School Class. He served on the Building and Grounds Committee for many years and helped with the painting, repairing and building of the Church Mission House. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad in 1990 with 41 years of service. He loved baseball and traveling and has attended baseball games at most every American League and National League Stadiums.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Farrell and Tressie Langley Honeycutt; brother, Wade Honeycutt (Polly) and sister, Maxine Cochran (Bud).
Survivors include his loving wife of 73 years, Rena Melhorn Honeycutt; daughter, Cheryl Alsbrook (Phil); son, Rick Honeycutt (Debbie); grandchildren, Jennifer Hickman (John), Kenny Robinson, Andy Robinson (Andrea), Holli Griffith (Travis), Ricky Honeycutt, Amanda Heath (Kevin), and Margaret Ray Alsbrook; great-grandchildren, Justin Hickman (Sydney), Jessica Hickman, Cameron Robinson, Hailey Robinson, Laney Robinson, Callie Robinson, Haden Griffith, Kendall Griffith, Brooks Honeycutt, Lucas Honeycutt and Molly Ann Heath.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jason Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service on Saturday.
Entombment will be at 11:00 AM Monday at Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Fund through First Baptist Church Fort Oglethorpe until January 28th.
The family will receive friends 4-8 PM Friday at Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.
