Wayne R. Halligan, 85, of Grand Junction, passed away on August 20, 2021 at St. Mary's Medical Center.
Wayne was born on April 23, 1936 in Roggen, Colorado, to Leland and Rose (Hazuka) Halligan of Commerce City, Colorado. He spent his childhood in Fort Morgan, Colorado, and graduated high school there. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and was honorably discharged in April of 1959. Wayne and his first wife, Darlene, divorced, and he married his wife of 28 years, Patricia M. Davis, on September 26, 1992. He and Patty were residents of Grand Junction for the last 20 years, having lived previously in Golden and Arvada.
Although he once said he thought he would be a rodeo cowboy, Wayne was a Western Slope Sales Manager for a materials handling company, where he was in charge of management and sales instruction. He was a recipient of the top sales award for 13 years. He was also the Executive VP of a Coast to Coast Trucking Company. Wayne was a member of the Elks Club, and he and Patty attended the Redlands Methodist Church. He loved to go to yard sales, play golf, ride motorcycles, go elk hunting, camping, and travel in the RV. During these years, Wayne and Patty traveled extensively throughout the U.S. whether it was by plane, car, RV, or motorcycle. They took trips to Mexico and Hawaii, and were fortunate enough to be able to take cruises to Panama Canal, Alaska, Canada, and British Columbia. Things that made him smile were sunshine, soft rain showers, and flowers. Wayne loved his garden, and always had the best tomatoes on the block. He enjoyed reading, and liked to learn something new every day. His proudest moment was the birth of his two sons.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Patty; sons, Rob (Gwen) Halligan of Golden, and Mark (April) Halligan of Craig; stepson, Lance Sjodin of Pueblo; sisters, Judy White of Missouri, and Theresa Hanson of Grand Junction; four grandchildren, Robby (Amber) Halligan, Jeff (Allie) Halligan, Kristi Halligan, and Tony Halligan; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Gail Spurling, Sunny Beard, Lela Rose Wishon, Vera LaVonne Best, and Jerry Darrell Halligan; and one grandchild, Zach Halligan.
