Wayne Widney Felton passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022, after suffering a bad fall at his home in Charlotte, NC. Wayne was born on July 9, 1950, in San Leandro, CA, to George Burley Felton and Mary Rolls Felton.
Growing up in San Leandro, Wayne attended Roosevelt Elementary, Bancroft Junior High, and San Leandro High School. After completing high school in 1968, he attended the University of California at Berkeley, where he graduated with a B.A. in Psychology.
In 1976, he married Carolyn Judd and they lived together in the Bay Area, where their two children were born. The family then moved to New Canaan, CT in 1986 before relocating to Charlotte, NC in 2000.
Wayne worked in the banking industry for most of his life, including long stints at Barclays Bank and Wells Fargo. After leaving Wells Fargo, he began a new role as the director of the Shepherd's Center of Charlotte, providing programs and services to seniors in the community.
Wayne was known for his outstanding memory, clever wit, and universal kindness. He watched "Jeopardy!" every evening, excelled at crosswords, and possessed a voluminous vocabulary. Wayne was also an avid genealogist and spent considerable time researching his parents' hometown of Zanesville, OH, and collecting antiques. He was very devoted to his church and volunteered for many years at Myers Park Presbyterian through his work with the Stephen Ministry, as well as serving on the boards of Deacons and Elders.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carolyn Judd Felton; children, Andrew Felton and his wife, Alice Wang of Washington, DC and Julia Felton and her husband, Tom Kelly of Detroit, MI; grandchildren, Aurora and Adrian Felton and Charlie and Stella Kelly. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Eileen Williams.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Myers Park Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service in Oxford Hall. The service will also be streamed at https://myersparkpres.org/live/ for those unable to attend in person.
