Warren Stewart Chorn, Jr., 89, of Abilene, Texas passed away on July 19, 2021 in Abilene. He was also known to family and friends as Dub.
Warren was born in Hermleigh, Texas October 22, 1931 and grew up in Abilene. Following graduation from Abilene High School, he attended Draughon's Business College and enjoyed a long career as a manager in retail department stores such as Gibson's and Walmart. He often said he absolutely loved his work and looked forward every day to getting to the store. Indeed, those who saw him in action knew that he was a leader who led by example. Warren was proud of a short time of service in the Army National Guard. He always wished he could have done more for his country, joking that he was born too late to serve in WWII and too early to serve in Korea. He was also a long-time member of Tye Baptist Church.
Warren was honored to be married on January 13, 1978 in Abilene to his wife of over 43 years, Jeannine Schandler of Crawford, Texas. He loved to travel, and was known to keep a dog for a companion, always a poodle, before surprising everyone by adopting his most current pal, a Schnauzer named Bailey. His kids have many fond memories, such as the way he got them out of bed for school in the mornings by singing the "School Days" song in his off-key voice, which they joke was ample motivation to get up and make it stop. Warren was preceded in death by his parents, Warren Stewart Sr. and Ruth Jones Chorn of Abilene, his elder sister June Chorn Price of Abilene and younger brother Kenneth Chorn of San Antonio. He is survived by his wife Jeannine, daughter Carolyn and her husband Milt Milton of Abilene, son Terry Chorn and his wife of Houston, and step-sons, Gary Middleton and Gerald Middleton and his wife Donna of Abilene, 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 4 nieces and 1 nephew.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the caring nurses, various therapists, doctors and staff of Hendrick South Medical Center Intensive Care Unit, to personnel and friends at Lyndale Assisted Living Center in Abilene, and to ministering friends of Tye Baptist Church.
Family and friends are invited to visitation from 6:00-8:00 pm on Friday, July 23 at Elliot-Hamil Funeral Home, at 5701 US Highways. 277 South in Abilene and also to a celebration of Warren's life at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 24 at Tye Baptist Church in Tye, Texas, Pastor Bill Murphy officiating, after a private graveside gathering for family earlier in the morning at Elmwood Cemetery.
