A memorial gathering and service to celebrate the life of Ward C. "Buck" Newman, Jr. will be held Saturday, June 29 from 10 to 11 AM at the Humbert Funeral Home in Confluence, a service will follow at 11 AM with Rev. Samuel McClintock officiating. Buck passed away at his home in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri on March 3, 2019. He was born November 23, 1943 in Meyersdale, a son of the late Ward C. and Winifred Jean (Lichliter) Newman. He was also preceded in death by his former wife, Joan Evans Newman of Waynesburg. Buck grew up in Confluence, where his father was a partner in Riverside Motor Sales. He graduated from Turkeyfoot Valley Area High School in 1961 and from Penn State University in 1965. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years' service and then spent 24 years as a chief training specialist with Boeing in St. Louis. Like his father, Buck was a Shriner and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Following his retirement from Boeing, he devoted much of his time volunteering with greyhound rescue and animal transport. He is survived by his wife, Sarah (Coughenour) Newman, who also grew up in Confluence; daughter, Shannon (Matt) Crist; granddaughters, Maggie, Camryn and Harper Crist, Moberly, Missouri; aunt Emily Jane Hickson, a retired elementary school teacher from Confluence; cousins, Nancy Hickson (Chuck) White and Debra Hickson (Ron) Spencer; their children, Laura White, Blaine (Jason) Thomason and children Tesla and Spencer Thomason and Jen (Mike) Wright and their daughter, Regan Wright.
